Code of Practice for Commercial Tenants

On 29 May 2020 the government announced that it is working with businesses and trade associations in order to publish a Code of Practice to support high street businesses through the COVID-19 crisis.

The intention of the Code will be to help guide and encourage all parties to work together to protect viable businesses and ensure a swift recovery.  The Code is intended to provide clarity and reassurance over rent payments and will encourage fair and transparent discussions between landlords and tenants over rental payments during the pandemic.

The Code will be temporary in nature and the government says it will explore options to make it mandatory if necessary.  The government is looking to publish the Code prior to the next quarter day i.e. 24 June 2020.  Please keep an eye on our web site for further up dates.
