James Woods

James is a solicitor who has experience in a broad range of private client work.  He has dealt with contentious and complex estates.  He is proactive and enjoys advising executors and trustees of their duties and assisting in administering an estate as efficiently as possible.

  • James has experience in:
  • Administering a wide range of estates including claims for business and agricultural reliefs, collecting in overseas assets and advising personal representatives when estates are subject to claims
  • the winding up of intestate estates
  • preparing claims to HMRC for exemptions in relation to lifetime gifts
  • preparing grant applications for lost Wills and for independent administrators to act
  • post-death tax planning including deeds of variation
  • the winding up of Will trusts

Achievements & other appointments

James was previously a full member of The Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Specialists (ACTAPS), and has undertaken specialised training in this area of law.

Education

James obtained a law degree from the University of Sussex and was admitted as a solicitor in 2011. He trained at a firm in Maidstone and has previously worked for legal practices across Kent and in East Sussex
